Yes, and this is genuinely one of my favourite parts of the job. I live in Point Cook so I know the west well. I have a go-to list of beautiful spots across Point Cook, Werribee, Altona, Tarneit and beyond, and I'm always finding new ones. These are places your family actually knows, which makes the photos feel even more like yours.
I also shoot all across metro Melbourne, and if you have a location that's meaningful to your family somewhere further out, I'm happy to travel. Just note that a location fee applies for anywhere more than 50km from Point Cook.

This is the number one thing parents are always worried about, and I'll be honest with you: the chaos is part of it. A toddler refusing to smile, a six-year-old pulling faces, a baby who picked today to skip their nap. I've photographed all of it and the photos are still incredible.

Your kids doesn't need to stay still and pose. They can just be themselves while I follow what's actually happening. The real moments are worth capturing and these are real memories that you and your family will treasure in a long time.

That said, I'll also make sure we get some family portraits with everyone looking. That's the job and I love that part too.

The short version: coordinate without matching. When everyone wears the exact same colour it can look a bit stiff. When you choose tones that work together, it looks intentional and relaxed at the same time.

Earthy tones, soft neutrals, warm creams, dusty blues and terracottas all photograph beautifully. Avoid very bright whites in direct sun and busy patterns that fight each other. Dress everyone in something they actually feel comfortable in, especially the kids, because uncomfortable kids make uncomfortable photos.

The two golden windows of the day are early morning and late afternoon. A 10am session works really well for families with young kids, they're usually at their best then, awake, happy and not yet thinking about lunch. In summer the heat hasn't kicked in yet, and in winter you still get a little warmth from the sun. The second golden window, which is my favourite window as a photographer, late afternoon golden hour, the hour before sunset, gives you that warm, glowy light that makes everything look magical and is hard to beat for portraits.

As for seasons, here's the truth: every season works beautifully with the right timing, location and clothing. Spring and autumn are popular for obvious reasons but don't sleep on winter. Melbourne winter light is some of the most beautiful light of the year, low, golden and atmospheric. Wrap the kids in knits and woollens, put everyone in layers they actually love wearing, and the photos come out incredibly warm and cosy despite the cold. Summer is absolutely doable too, we just time it right to avoid the hottest part of the day.
There is no bad season. There's just good planning.
